Following on from the successes of last years C3IA Polar Challenge
Sponsorship, (Chris and his race partner came 3rd ), Chris attempted to
undertake a 1200 mile walk to the South Pole and back. Not only is this a
great feat in itself, but his intention was to attempt this with no external
assistance, carrying all his supplies, and spare equipment for both journeys
to the South Pole and then back to the Start Point. Chris successfully made
it to the South Pole unassisted, in good shape and in high spirits and was
all prepared to make the push back to the start point.
However, due to an
unforeseen delay at the start (15 days stuck in Chile due to weather
conditions), Chris had to make the unwelcome and hugely devastating decision
to call a halt to the challenge otherwise he would miss the last flight off
the ice cap. Chris has now returned to the UK and has vowed to go back later
in 2011 and finish what he set out to accomplish, to be the first person to
walk to the South Pole and back unassisted. Watch this space.
Information about this next challenge can be found at
www.4wardmotion.co.uk. C3IA will again be
taking an active role and providing assistance where necessary.
